Calaveras Wineries is a site maintained by the Calaveras Winemakers Cooperative, a group of winemakers, winery owners, and vineyard owners in the county. Our goal is to promote Calaveras County wines, vineyards, and wineries, and to improve the quality of wine of our members and of other interested winemakers.

The wineries in Calaveras county are as diverse as the wines they create.  Tasting rooms can be in barns, in store fronts, in basements, and there was once one in a cave!  One thing is sure, though, that the tasting experience in Murphys, Vallecito, and Angels Camp will whet your appetite for more of this incredible county.  We do produce your basic Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, your standby Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, but the winemakers here have also stretched their talents to making wines from many of the more exotic varietals, like Barbera and Tempranillo, Syrah and Sangiovese,  Tesoro, Malvasia Bianca and Viognier, Zinfandel, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Reserve Syrah.  Our winemakers have produced Apricot Wine, Pour'it Tawny Granche (port), Syrah Port, Grand Cuvee Champagne, Raspberry Champagne, and even Almond Champagne.

As a sampling of the wide range of wine and tasting in the area, be sure to try Irish Vineyards found in Vallecito, Zucca Mountain Vineyards right on Main Street in Murphys, and Chiarella Wines in a store front in Angels Camp.

While you're here, be sure to check out the many Wine Events (see links above) that each winery puts on, everything from Wine and Cheese Pairing, Wine and Chocolate Pairing, to participation in the Murphys Grape Stomp, to the incredible Passport Weekend.  Visitors can also participate in Wine Tours, and each of our wineries would be happy to give tours of their vineyards, wineries, and many of the special features that make Calaveras the next best wine region.  Come give Calaveras wines a try!
